This is a pretty tumultuous issue in any corner of society. I’ve heard studies from scientists on both sides of the spectrum, some saying “global warming is a myth” others saying “oh my god we’re all gonna die by 2012″….who do you believe? Well, look at things for yourself. The recorded history of the world, realistically, is only about a thousand years. This I think is a realistic projection of the changes in climate for which actual data, not scientific supposition, can be used. Now, the earth is pretty old. A little older than 1000 years. So, what’s more plausible? That global warming is killing the planet, melting the polar caps and we’re all going to drown in 3 years….OR that we are merely in a natural cycle that the earth goes through (there have been great floods and even a few ice ages in our history) from time to time. Man has only been adding carbon into the atmosphere since the dawn of the industrial age. That’s only about 200 years. Not exactly a great deal of time. This is all my own common sense at work here. Obviously scientists will have “hard data” to share, but then again science can be manipulated to one outcome or another. We know that. Is carbon bad? In large quantities, yes. Should we learn to live more carbon neutral? Absolutely, it’s only good for the long term sustainability of our communities. Are we in dire straights AT THIS VERY MOMENT? I don’t think so.
