CDG update: Roscoe House, Videos, and the Intro of Modern Design in a Historic District

Submitted by greg on May 7, 2010 – 3:24 pm4 Comments

We are back from a  little hiatus from posting with some exciting things getting ready to happen.Things have been a little crazy around here but we have finally got our hands around it. The Roscoe house is complete and out for pricing. We are looking forward to seeing it come out of the ground. We will stay updated with pictures and video as it progresses and will post the final design very soon.

First of all, we have heard from readers that they miss our Friday Videos. The Friday videos are meant for inspiration and enjoyment. These are videos that we find on the web that we think are cool. They can be of just about anything, but we try to find content and focus on topics of modern design, architecture, sustainability, and yes, sometimes music. (See Friday’s video at the bottom of the page)

The second thing we will be attempting to do is start a video blog entry on Building Modern in a National Historic District. We have just signed a contract for a modern home to be built in Jacksonville’s Springfield Historic District. Building modern in a historic district can be hard for some people to swallow. We hope to shed some light on the processes while we educate and sometimes entertain. Our clients are open minded and are ready for anything. We have chosen a builder that specializes in sustainability and they are also excited about the possibilities. We will not be trying to buck the system at all, we believe that modern design that meets the guidelines set forth by the Secretary of the Interior’s National Guidelines for Historic Preservation can not only be beautiful and well designed but can also enhance the historic fabric of a neighborhood. It is going to be a fun journey and we look forward to having you along for the ride.

The Friday videos are back and here is a fun one to get us going:

Special thanks to DWELL, Bruce Weber, and Dedon Outdoor Furniture for this content.

Famed photographer Bruce Weber branches out into the world of video with this fun-filled romp for Dedon’s new outdoor collection. This video pretty much covers it all. Take some cool modern outdoor furniture, throw in some models, a tree house and an amazing photographer and this is what you get.
