In 2005 with the help of Live Modern‘s chat room, we started First Coast Modern which later received the tag line FiCoMo.  We met every three to four months to talk about all things modern.  We had a really great turn out for the Jacksonville market.  It seems like modern is still a dirty word in Jacksonville.  A couple of weeks ago Jason and I ran into some of the original attendees and they expressed that were interested in getting back together.  We decided to use Facebook as a conduit and sent out the following email to our original mailing list.

We are in the process of re-launching the First Coast Modern Group. What to ask yourself to see if you should participate:

Am I interested in modern architecture and design?

Do I like to partake in adult beverages and talk about modern architecture and design?

Would I like to meet people who have and interest in modern architecture and design?

Do I know two of the following three people?  Charles Eames…Rem Koolhaas…Le Corbusier

Am I interested in modern furniture and lighting?

Do I feel like Jacksonville is a little slow when it comes to modern design?

We have started a Facebook Group to give everyone interested a place to congregate.  We will also use this Group to keep members updated on upcoming meetings and events.  I know some people are hesitant to open a Facebook account, but please realize that you can keep your info private and only allow friends that you request.

The best part is that it only cost FREE dollars.  As in $0.00.  Also known as nothing…………

Jason and I are here to facilitate the meetings.  We have numerous people that have offered locations to meet.  We also think that we should have some kind of agenda and/or speakers.  We believe that modern design goes hand in hand with green and sustainability.  This is where Facebook comes in.  FiCoMo members can post links, pictures, ideas, and just about anything else as it relates to modern design.  This is not a place to advertise or sell your goods and services, but we would be interested in presentations from companies as they relate to modern / green design.If you are interested, please sign up for a Facebook account (If you don’t already have one) and sign up for the First Coast Modern (FiCoMo) Group.

Remember that this is not for industry professionals only.   We welcome anyone and everyone who has a love, an interest, or just a curiosity of what modern design is.

We will be scheduling a fall gathering to get everyone together so that we can talk about what you would like to get out of First Coast Modern.  We will discuss potential meeting locations as well as possible speakers and presenters.
