Friday Video: U.S. Solar Decathalon – Shout out to Team Florida and the FLeX House

Just wanted to hopefully mark a return to the Friday Video posts, with one that’s near and dear to our hearts because we’re 2/3 University of Florida alumni – a virtual tour of Team Florida’s entry in this year’s U.S. Solar Decathlon, the FLeX House. University of Florida Interior Design students joined other design and engineering students from other Florida colleges to develop the 1,000 sf entry that uses technology learned from the historic Florida cracker style, which incorporates deep shaded porches and the ability to open the windows and door of the home to allow for cross breezes.

Although they didn’t win, that honor goes to Team Maryland, they should be very proud and are to be commended for the effort and time it took…a job well done.

Did you ever hear what the final construction costs would be for this? I noted on their site they referred to moderate income families. What could something like this really be built for?
