Pod Dwellings: Sustainable Habitats and Suburban Ecosystems
We stopped into the Art Center while walking between a DVI Downtown Stakeholders meeting and lunch at the Burrito Gallery here in Jacksonville a few weeks ago and was really impressed with the Pod Dwellings: Sustainable Habitats and Suburban Ecosystems series by local artist, Susan Sapinski. I love the whimsical shapes and density of the stacked pods and the color palette that Susan chose for the paintings. Originally I bought a small one (pictured below) to go into our new nursery, but really haven’t been able to take it out of the office yet…
Below is a bit of information on the series and some other images that Susan sent over to share:
Pod dwellings are an imaginative way to explore sustainable living, combining living & work spaces into vertical habitats, designed to encourage the residents to live in harmony with their surrounding natural environment.
The pods take on an organic form, where grass, trees and vegetable gardens grow on rooftops, providing the inhabitants shared recreational and food production locations. Windows in the pods are oversized, allowing natural light and ventilation to flow through the private spaces, minimizing the need for electrical power consumption.
Hope you enjoy the introduction into the Pod Dwelling series as much as I did…

I am trying to locate Susan Sapinski’s paintings for purchase. I have tried the Adams St. Gallery 6 times but it was always closed. Could you provide me with info regarding her work?
Thank you,
