urban facelift project #9 (0 union street)

Those of you who were at the SAMBA meeting last Thursday got a chance to see the beginning of this project being used as a demonstration. We have now completed it, and it took the form of an eco-building. There is a lot going on in this one. The roof sports five Architectural Wind AVX1000 turbines to provide up to half of the buildings electrical needs. To keep with the eco-friendly theme, the main 1st floor store is a “green” home store. There is also a store for dog lovers, “Barky’s”. Also, in an effort to show what could be hopefully in the near future, you will also see the new Jacksonville light rail system. Finally we have a bicycle messenger and bicycle racks next to the building itself.

Like the turbines. This building (and its owner) are sad… Keep me posted on the outcome of taping a printout of this to the door!
sweet. I love the addition of the original street car line that used to run down that street. As these Urban Face lift projects get more advanced I like how you’re proposing uses for the buildings as well. It’s not just a pretty picture, but an investigation into what can help make our city more vibrant a commercial center.

As someone who has taken an old and tired downtown building and given it new life, The 140 West Monroe Street Building (Dalton Agency), this is exciting. Let us know how we can help move these ideas forward. More people need to see this!
