Here we go……..

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing holiday season.  I am really looking forward to getting back to a regular schedule and Jason is really looking forward to some big football game on Thursday.  By now you should know that we here at content design group are big Charles and Ray Eames fans.  We own vintage as well as reproduction Eames pieces.  If you have any interest in  mid-century modern design, you are probably aware of the Eames fiberglass chair controversy.  Herman Miller originally manufactured  the fiberglass chairs in the fifties with huge success.  Many of these chairs are still around and originals can fetch a nice price tag.  In more recent times, Modernica has started remaking (to the original specifications) the Eames fiberglass shells.  The argument is, Herman miller thinks that the Eames’ would want the chairs fabricated in plastic rather than the original fiberglass because it is better for the environment.  Herman Miller and Modernica continue to have their different opinions.  We personally like the fiberglass Modernica chairs better than the Herman Miller plastic (officially licensed chairs).  We understand both sides of the argument, but it is a shame that Modernica and Herman Miller can not get along.  Herman Miller makes a quality product that is licensed by the Eames’ estate (Eames Office) and Modernica makes accurate reproductions for the fiberglass chairs and the George Nelson bubble lamps.

Which ever side you land on, you will surely injoy this vintage film of the making of the fiberglass Eames chiars:
